Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center Announces New Director

Dr. Fred Herron has been hired as the Executive Director of the Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center. Fred has been serving as the Chairperson of the Religious Studies Department at Fontebonne Hall Academy in Brooklyn. He directed religious education for the U.S. Coast Guard and assisted in the development of the adult formation program at St. Clare's parish on Staten Island. He was the director of Mount Manresa Retreat Center on Staten Island. He is also an adjunct instructor at St. John's University. He brings a wide range of experiences and knowledge to Mariandale, a sponsored ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Hope.

Oudi Arroni brings Chair Yoga to Mariandale

Yoga has been shown to be beneficial in so many ways including lubricating joints, helping to create balance, allowing the muscles to move freely, as well as facilitating the flow of blood. This gentle chair yoga is designed for seniors or anyone who, for whatever reason, cannot negotiate floor positions but still wishes all the benefit of a yoga practice. The time will Include meditation at the end to integrate the work that’s been done. It is never too late to begin! Dress in comfortable clothes and wear socks. Yoga for Relaxation, Rejuvenation and Balance

Rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit through yoga and alignment. Included: - postures to tone, stretch and strengthen the body and relieve tension; - safe alignment techniques to ease and optimize the effects of the poses; - meditation and breathing exercises for calming, soothing, and reducing stress. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a blanket or two, a towel and mat. Eat lightly, at least an hour before class. Instructor: Chris Glover Six week series: Series A: September 11 – October 16 Series B: October 23 – December 4 Series C: January 8 – February 12, 2015 Thursdays: 6:45 – 8:00 pm Fee: $25 – $30 per individual session (as you are able); $100 - $120 for any 6-week series (as you are able)
